Date Night Ideas

We’ve already shared the importance of having a date night as well as how to keep them going during Covid. Here are a few more ideas for good times with your significant other.

For Foodies

Up first is the ultimate classic date night: dinner and a movie. They say if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, but that doesn’t mean you can’t improve it. If you or your date is a foodie, do your research and head to a Michelin-starred restaurant. If you really want to impress the food lover in your life, you could even consider a molecular gastronomy restaurant.

You don’t have to just accept whatever’s new in the theaters. More and more these days there are fun spots around town (including old-drive-ins) showing older films to take you back to your high school or childhood memories. Some of them have dine-in service too, so you can do the dinner-and-movie thing in the same place.

The point here is the classic dinner and movie don’t have to be boring — it’s all about the effort you put into it.

For Nature Lovers

If the idea of spending your night in a dark movie theater or a crowded restaurant puts you off, head outside. This is obviously dependent on where you live and the weather, but there are lots of outdoor activities that would make for a great date.

Turn your date night into an afternoon date and go out for a hike. Or maybe a picnic in a park or on the beach is more your style. If you’re both active you could go for a long walk or even a jog together. If you’re lucky enough to live near the water, you could go out kayaking or for a sunset boat cruise.

For Culture Aficianados

This date idea works best for our city dwellers, just in terms of easy access to art and museums. That’s not to say that those of you who live in a small town can’t enjoy art too. Hop in your car and head to the closest museum. You could also admire street art, look into any temporary art exhibits in your hometown, or go to your local theater to see a show.

You can find art almost anywhere – if you know where to look for it.

For Adventurers

If you like your date night with a side of mental stimulation, we think that an evening at an escape game could make for an unforgettable moment. There are so many different types of escape games available and the most adventurous couples will get a kick of solving a problem together.

In case you’re unaware of how it works, you’ll get instructions from the escape room gamemaster and then you’re given a certain amount of time to solve a set of clues, complete a list of tasks, or crack a code. It’s exciting and requires a lot of teamwork – and is a great way to bond.

An activity like an escape game can also take some of the pressure out of date night. You both will be so focused on winning the challenge that you won’t have time to worry about whether the conversation is flowing or not. If you find yourself itching to talk, you can always go out for a quick bite or drink after you’ve had your fun.

For Caffeine Addicts

If you’re no stranger to The Gents Blog you know that we have a passion for the good stuff: coffee. We feel strange starting our day without it, and we love to end a good meal with it. It wakes us up, helps with digestion, and tastes pretty darn good. Why not share a cup of joe as a date?

This is another idea that you may want to save for the late morning or early afternoon, especially if you’re sensitive to caffeine. No matter what time of day you decide to go for it, it’s a good setting for good conversation. You could also combine a coffee date with an outdoor date if you take yours to go. A walk on the beach with a coffee in hand? Sounds like the perfect date idea to us.
